How Long Does PPF Last in Florida?

How many years paint protection film lasts in Florida heat, whether it yellows, and the care habits that make it last.

How Long Does PPF Last in Florida?

Quality paint protection film is rated for up to 10 years with proper maintenance, and that holds up in Florida. Older and cheaper films could yellow, crack, or peel in a few years of strong sun. Today's quality films are built to stay clear for their rated life. How long yours actually lasts depends on the film, the install, and how it's washed.

Does PPF turn yellow in the Florida sun?

Older and cheaper films did. Modern quality films are made to resist yellowing for their rated life, which is why the film you choose matters more in Florida than in milder climates. Ours is rated for up to 10 years with proper care.

What shortens the life of PPF?

  • Pressure washers too close. High pressure aimed at an edge can lift it. Keep the nozzle at least 3 feet back and off the edges.
  • Automatic car washes. Brushes are hard on any finish, and touchless washes blast high-pressure water and harsh soap at the edges. Hand wash instead.
  • Washing too soon. Fresh film needs time to settle. We ask customers to wait 2 weeks before the first wash.
  • Letting contamination bake on. Bug guts and bird droppings that sit for days in the sun are harder to remove from any surface.
  • A rushed install. Film that stops on the paint instead of wrapping the edge is more likely to lift over time.

What makes PPF last longer?

  • Hand wash with a pH-neutral soap and soft microfiber towels
  • Rinse off lovebugs and bird droppings within a day or two
  • Keep pressure washers 3 feet back
  • Get the 1 to 2 week check-up after install, which we include with every PPF job

Our PPF care guide covers the full routine.

Is PPF worth it if I'll sell the car in a few years?

Often, yes. The film keeps the paint underneath looking new, and it can come off cleanly when you sell, leaving original paint with no chips. Our honest answer on whether PPF is worth it goes deeper, and our guide to what PPF actually does explains how it protects your paint.

PPF vs ceramic coating: which lasts longer?

They do different jobs. PPF is a physical layer that stops rock chips and is rated for up to 10 years. A ceramic coating is a thin, hard layer that keeps paint glossy and easy to clean, rated 3 to 10 years depending on the package. Many of our customers do both. Our ceramic coating vs PPF guide compares them side by side.

Every PPF install is done in our own shop in Wildwood, across from Brownwood Paddock Square. See our paint protection film options.
