How Long Does Ceramic Coating Last in Florida?
How long a ceramic coating really lasts in Florida sun, sprinklers, and lovebug season, what shortens it, and how to get every year out of it.

The short answer: our packages are rated 5 to 7 years for Shine & Protect and 7 to 10 years for Showroom Shine, with proper care. The real answer depends on how the car is washed, where it’s parked, and what Florida throws at it. Here’s what actually decides how long your coating lasts.
What the ratings mean
A coating’s rating is how long it’s designed to keep protecting the paint when it’s cared for the way it should be. It isn’t a countdown that runs the same for every car. Two cars with the same coating can get very different results depending on how they’re treated.
- Shine & Protect: a light polish, then CQuartz Pro on the paint and exterior trim, plus the face of the wheels, the windshield, and the lights. Rated 5 to 7 years.
- Showroom Shine: our longest-lasting package, with CARPRO Finest Reserve on the paint, all the glass, the lights, and the trim, and the wheels removed so the faces and barrels get coated too. Rated 7 to 10 years.
What shortens a coating’s life in Florida
Brush car washes. The soap is fine. The spinning bristles aren’t. They drag grit across the coating over and over, and that wears it down faster than anything else. Hand wash or touchless only.
Sprinkler water. Florida sprinklers often carry hard water. When it dries on the paint, it leaves mineral spots, and spots left sitting for weeks can start to etch, even on a coating.
Lovebugs and bird droppings left to bake. They come off easily from a coated car, but they’re acidic. Left on the paint for weeks in July, they can still do damage. Rinse them within a few days.
Never washing it. A coating makes washing easier, not unnecessary. Dirt that sits on the paint for months still holds moisture and grime against it.
Wax on top. Wax sits on the coating and hides the slickness you paid for. It isn’t needed.
What helps it last
- Hand wash every couple of weeks with a pH-neutral car soap and two buckets.
- Dry with clean microfiber or a blower, not old towels or a chamois.
- Rinse off lovebugs and droppings soon, especially in summer.
- Park in shade or a garage when you can. Less sun means less work for the coating.
- Use a coating-safe spray topper now and then to boost slickness.
Our ceramic coating care guide has the full routine, including the first week after the coating goes on, when you should skip soap for 7 days while it cures.
How to tell if it’s wearing down
A healthy coating beads and sheets water off easily, and dirt rinses away without much effort. When you notice water sitting flat on the hood or roof, or the car getting harder to clean, the coating on those panels is working harder. The hood and roof usually show it first, because they get the most sun.
Does Florida mean less than the rating?
Not if the car is cared for. Florida is harder on paint than most places, which is exactly why a coating makes sense here. The cars that get the full life out of their coating are the ones washed gently and regularly and kept out of brush washes. The ones that fall short are usually washed with brushes or left dirty for long stretches.
Getting the most out of it from day one
Every coating we apply goes on in our climate-controlled shop in Wildwood, after a full exterior wash and decontamination, so it bonds to clean paint. At pickup, we show you exactly how to wash the car, and a few days later we call to make sure you love it.
If you’re deciding between packages, the question to ask is how long you plan to keep the car. If it’s five years or less, Shine & Protect covers it. If it’s longer, Showroom Shine is built for that.
