Tesla Model Y: PPF, Ceramic Tint, and Coating Guide
What we recommend for a Tesla Model Y: paint protection film, ceramic tint, the glass roof, and a ceramic coating, based on the Model Ys we do every week.

The Tesla Model Y is one of the cars we see most at our shop in Wildwood. On one day this week, we had three Model Ys in for paint protection film: front ends on two and the full body on a third. Here’s what we recommend for a Model Y, and why, based on the ones that come through our doors.
1. Paint protection film: start with the front
For most Model Ys, we recommend starting with Rock Guard: the front bumper, full hood, full fenders, mirrors, and headlights. That’s where nearly every rock chip lands, and the Model Y’s short, steep nose takes a lot of them on the highway.
If you plan to keep the car a long time, or you want every panel protected, Whole Car Armor covers every painted surface. If you want a satin look in the original color, Full Stealth puts matte film over the whole car.
We wrap the edges wherever the panel allows, and we take parts off where the car allows, so the film tucks in behind them instead of stopping short. Every install gets a check-up 1 to 2 weeks later. More in PPF packages explained.
2. Ceramic tint: the side and rear glass

A Model Y has a lot of glass, and in a Florida summer the cabin heats up fast, especially if you have the white interior. Our Premium Comfort ceramic film blocks 88% of the heat you feel and keeps the cabin about 32° cooler. Max Comfort super ceramic blocks up to 96%. Both block 99% of UV and carry a lifetime warranty on the film and our labor.
Ceramic film has no metal in it, so it doesn’t interfere with your phone key, GPS, or cell signal. The Model Y’s door glass is frameless, so we’re careful with the edges and seals during install. Tint is usually in by 8 and ready by 4.
3. The glass roof
This is the question every Model Y owner asks. The glass roof isn’t part of our tint packages. We do it as an upgrade with tinted paint protection film, made for that kind of glass, which takes the edge off the sun coming straight down on you. Ask about it when you request your quote.
4. Ceramic coating: over everything
A ceramic coating goes over the film and the rest of the paint, so water, bugs, and pollen rinse right off. That matters a lot on a Model Y during lovebug season, when the front of the car collects them on every drive. Our Shine & Protect package is rated 5 to 7 years, and Showroom Shine, with CARPRO Finest Reserve and the wheels off, is rated 7 to 10.
What order should you do it in?
If you’re doing more than one, the usual order is:
- Film first, so it goes onto clean, bare paint.
- Coating on top of the film and the remaining paint.
- Tint, which goes on the inside of the glass, so it can happen in the same visit.
Doing it all at once means one drop-off and one ride home. Your one-way Uber or Lyft is covered, and your Tesla is under 24/7 video surveillance the whole time it’s with us.
The best time to do it
Right after delivery. The paint has no chips yet, the interior hasn’t spent a summer baking, and there’s nothing to fix first. If you can, book us for the week you pick up the car.
