How Long Does Window Tint Last in Florida?
How many years car window tint lasts in Florida sun, why cheap tint turns purple and bubbles, and the signs it's time to replace it.

Quality ceramic window tint is built to last the life of your car, even in Florida sun. Cheap dyed tint is a different story: it can start fading, turning purple, or bubbling within a few years. How long your tint lasts comes down to the film it's made of and how well it was installed.
Why does some tint turn purple?
Dyed tint gets its color from dye, and UV breaks that dye down over time. As it breaks down, the film fades and shifts toward purple. Florida's year-round sun speeds that up. Ceramic tint doesn't rely on dye for darkness or heat rejection, so it holds its color.
Why does tint bubble or peel?
Bubbling and peeling usually come from the adhesive failing or from a poor install: dust under the film, edges that weren't sealed, or film that was rushed onto the glass. Small hazy spots right after an install are different. That's water drying out from between the film and the glass, and it clears in about 3 days, or up to 5 when it's cold.
Signs it's time to replace your tint
- It has turned purple or looks faded and blotchy
- Bubbles or blisters you can see from the driver's seat
- Edges peeling up or lifting
- Cracking or a crinkled look
- The car feels as hot as it did before it was tinted
If you see any of these, the film can be removed, the glass cleaned carefully around the defroster lines, and new ceramic film installed the same day.
How to make window tint last
- Let it cure. Keep the windows up for 3 full days, and don't clean the inside of the glass for the first 10 days.
- Use the right cleaner. An ammonia-free glass cleaner and a soft microfiber towel. Skip paper towels and anything abrasive.
- Watch the edges. Seatbelt buckles, rings, and dog claws can nick the film.
